Bates Update HOLIDAZZLER
The Thanks have been given and continue to be perpetuated by our own attitudes for gratitude! Continuous support from family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and YOU; inspires me and fuels my musical life. Thank you!!!!
Atlantis Quartet just returned from a two-day mini-tour that was super fun and rewarding. It’s such a rarity to get the chance to play the same music for a few nights in a row and deepen our connections as a band. Our 5th album ‘Hello Human‘ was just recently released so please click through and listen. We believe it’s our strongest work to date and we hope you enjoy it!
Recently my brother JT announced that he was discontinuing the Jazz Implosion that has been running pretty much non-stop for 20 years at the Turf Club and Icehouse. I have had so many incredible experiences at this series as a performer and a listener. I believe I played on the very first night with JT and Doug Little but the galvanizing band of those early years was without a doubt Fat Kid Wednesdays. JT, Adam andMike brought so much intensity and beauty to that tiny little room! I’ll never forget their collaborations with Terry McManus, Greg Ward, Adam Niewood and Anthony Cox. The list of artists who played on the series is incredible so I’ll just let my memory free form a highlights list, Gerry Hemingway, Jerry Granelli, Mike Reed, Dean’s Granros and Magraw, Dave Karr, Jeff Ballard, Mike Sarin, Tatsuya Nakatani, Craig Taborn, Tim Berne, David Torn, Jim Campilongo, Jakob Bro, Thomas Morgan, Joey Baron, Gutbucket, Brown Rainbow, Jen Shyu, Dave King, and the list goes on! One of my personal favorite memories was the kindness JT showed me after I was on a hiatus before my first child was born and my first show back after that incredible event was my very first solo bass set. It’s truly humbling that he gave me that opportunity to ‘come back’ in a new context and I can’t thank him enough. 20 years is a long time to do something and to have it be so consistently creative and successful is a true testament to my brother’s integrity and vision. JT – thanks so much. I’m really at a loss for words here.
There are currently only 3 remaining nights of this particular music series and I’m very proud to say I’ll be playing with JT on the last two (12/10 and17). Please come and support. Icehouse will, of course, continue to have music but now the jazz and improvisation will be mixed freely into the schedule. It’s an exciting time for a new adventure!
I have a boatload of upcoming shows so you should venture over to Doublebates.com for the full schedule! Feel free to subscribe to stay up to date.
